Young Writers Notebook

Young Writers Notebook

THIS SITE WILL BE SUSPENDED OCT 1, 2010.

During beta testing, novelists Kathy McCullough and Randy Russell, creators of Young Writers Notebook, realized our current software and forums format were unable to support YWN as an interactive website for writers.  We will suspend all operations and dismantle the site October 1, 2010.   On this date, Young Writers Notebook will cease to exist.

We thank all members for their support and for posting their creative writing here while the site was in beta test.  We enjoyed getting to know you and your writing!

Thank you!

1. Cicada Magazine, which accepts poetry, fiction and art from teens for their print magazine, also has an online site for posting poetry and microfiction.

It's called: The Slam.

There is the ability to comment on other posts, and a Slam Master who moderates and is presumably an editor at the magazine.

2. Teen Ink is an online magazine for teen writers, which has forums for posting your writing as well as for discussions. They also publish a print magazine.

3. Inkwell is a writing forum, for adults and teens, with discussion groups and places to get feedback.

4. inkpop is a competitive site for teen writers, which is sponsored by HarperCollins.

New Writing Forums: Ideas

Posted by Kathy McCullough on August 12, 2010 at 6:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Among the new Writing Forums mentioned in a previous post is one called "Ideas Taking Shape."

This is a place to post concepts you want to test out on other writers: Is the idea compelling? Has anyone seen something similar? Is there an element missing that needs to be added in order for the story to develop?

This is also a great place to post short scenes or passages you've written but haven't yet developed into a story. It might be the description of a place, character or an event you witnessed or a short piece inspired by a dream you had.

You can also post short writing pieces here that may not ever go further, but that you're proud of and would like to share with others.

If there are other writing forums you'd like us to add, let us know!

New Writing Forums! (Overview)

Posted by Kathy McCullough on August 6, 2010 at 9:41 PM Comments comments (0)

Any longtime members (and by longtime, I mean over a week) may have noticed that we've made some notable changes in the "Your Notebook" forums. These have all been in response to great feedback by members.

The "Your Writing Notebook" section is now devoted exclusively to excerpts from members' work. The result is more truly a "forum," where conversations can take place about works in progress. (Confidentially, this is MUCH more appealing to us, the three moderators, because we would rather read and cheer what you're working on now than try to keep coming up with random exercise ideas -- which none of you need!)

The "Writing Life" area includes forums for writers seeking beta readers for finished work, for questions about a professional writing career, for posting information or questions about studying writing, and, finally, a place to discuss anything at all about the writing life. Again, all of these were in response to suggestions from members.

Thanks, writers, for making this site better. :D

And anyone visiting us for the first time: we're still open to more feedback and welcome more beta testers to join the talented members already here.
